Our Review of 'The Changeling' by Murry Hope

If the goals of life is simply to live life to the full in a creative way, to inspire others and leave a mark on the world then I guess that 'The Changeling' by Murry Hope is a handbook in how its done.

Reading this book is such a wonderful testament to the life of one of our most popular and ground-breaking writers on metaphysics, spirituality, psychology and mythology,

The story starts with Murry recalling her early years, of being rejected by her mother soon after birth and how she was brought up by her nanny. She explains how she struggled for so long (maybe throughout her whole life) with the energy field that surrounded her body which to her felt strangely non-human.

From the very earliest years she was exposed to the world of the mystical. At the age of six she was presented to a palmist who divined her life is quite accurate and spectacular ways. Later on she began to experience a strengthening in her own psychic powers which led her towards developing a natural talent for things like Astral traveling.

Murrys' first published works started appearing in the mid-1970s when, in 1975 her first major work 'The Ancient Wisdom of Atlantis' appeared on the bookshop shelves. She subsequently went on to write many books dealing with subjects as diverse as Greek, Egyptian and Celtic Magic along with titles related to spiritual powers such as Psychic Self-Defence.

A major turning point in Murrys' life occurred during a hypnosis session that she took part in at a point in her early 1950s'. This untapped memories of being a Leonine being from the star Sirius. From this point on she became over-shadowed by a group of Lion-like discarnate beings whom she came to call the Paschats or Lion People.

Later she went on to write two books about the Paschats, their home on Sirius and their extra-terrestrial roots. These were published in the early 1990s as 'The Lion People' and 'The Paschats and 'The Paschats and the Crystal People'.

Murry devotes the whole of chapter 19 of her book 'The Changeling' to this period in her life and the impact that these benign beings had upon her. The story in this book is warm, engaging and fascinating. It is sometimes difficult to keep up with the train of events and it really needed a better record of dates and places to make any chronological sense. There is a great emphasis on her earlier years and I would have liked to have read more about Murrys' life during her time as an occult writer and mystical teacher.

However her material related to her experiences with the Paschats is fascinating and clearly led to the writing of one of her most ground-breaking books 'The Cosmic Connection'.

This is an engaging story of one very brave womans' fights to determine her own sense of individuality and to carve a niche for herself in life during a period of history when women were frowned upon for such things. Although life offered her a great deal in the way of talent and opportunity Murry clearly had many difficult challenges in her life - even from the very start, but she overcame these with a great sense of pragmatism and good-humour. This is a fascinating cultural insight into the life of one of our great spiritual writers.
