Our Review of 'The Sirius Connection' by Murry Hope
Trying to unravel the secrets of the Ancient Egyptian cosmology is a thankless task.
If you do so within the confined structure of accepted Western thought then you are accepted as a great scholar but if you dare to break free of the limited confines of our accepted version of Egyptian history then you are castigated into the pit of lunatics.
However over the past decade or so a number of writers and researchers have dared to look at the Egyptian civilization with new and unfettered eyes. Sometimes their ideas are so far advanced that they defy all logic but just sometimes a writer approaches the subject in a new and refreshing way.
Murry Hope and her publication 'The Sirius Connection' is just one of them.
It has been suggested by many writers that Sirius played a pivotal role in the Egyptian sacred and religious systems. This idea is gaining ground - indeed has now become accepted wisdom that the Egyptians actually set their calendar around the annual appearance of Sirius and that many of the temples were also orientated around the star.
However few writers have dared to suggest that their understanding and appreciation of the Dog Star went as far as Murry Hope is suggesting in this book. Indeed, within the pages of 'The Sirius Connection', the author has explored a wide range of Egyptian/Siriun ideas.
These include an examination of the hierarchy of Gods and Goddesses and their possible Siriun roots, the use of Siriun high and low magic, magical talismans, numerology and the healing arts. Her knowledge of her subject is evident throughout and whilst the ideas are complex she presents them in a clear and very readable way.
With the welcome addition of line drawings and photographs this is a thoroughly entertaining and enriching read.
Finally, if you are interested in the subject of the connection between Felines and Sirius as approached in Chapter 12: Lion Power then I suggest that you try and track down a copy of another of Murrys' publications namely, 'The Lion People' in which she develops her ideas related to Lionine beings from Sirius further.
